Silage Additives
We supply only the finest silage additives from Biotal to our clients
Biotal are a Cardiff based company who specialize in producing crop specific additives for the preservation of a wide variety of forages based on patented bacteria and enzymes. They can be used in organic systems.
Grass , the most commonly grown crop in the U.K. can be treated to improve nutrient availability, palatability and intake. Two treatments are available — AxpHast Profile II for low DM (<25%) not only gives a rapid drop in pH so that nutrients such as sugar and protein are preserved but also contains an enzyme package to break down the hemicellulose package: Axcool Hi Dry is formulated for use on high DM (>25%) silage to prevent aerobic spoilage.
Forage maize is increasing in popularity. It can reduce feed costs, improve animal performance and provide traceable home grown feed. New Maizecool Gold will preserve the crop and prevent aerobic deterioration and inhibit the growth of undesirable yeast and fungi: especially useful for preserving Maize for summer feeding.
Wholecrop cereals are rapidly becoming the mainstay of many winter diets. Fermented wholecrop provides a consistent feed with a wide harvest window and high dry matter yield. Wholecrop Gold for fermented whole crop contains a patented bacteria and enzyme system that prevents yeasts and moulds whilst improving digestibility and overall animal health and performance.
Homegrown grain can also be used to produce crimp. All cereals can be crimped. If combined early at around 30—40 % moisture and then passed through a specialized crimping machine a high energy, high starch feed is produced. BIOCRIMP will ensure aerobic stability once the moist crimped grain is ensiled in an airtight clamp.
Homegrown protein in the form of legumes , i.e. peas, beans, lupins, red clover and Lucerne can provide a traceable feed. WHOLECROP LEGUME is specially formulated to provide a fast pH drop and maintain aerobic stability, as well as increasing the feed value of the forage to give improved performance.
